The Homestead -
A three-room cabin full of family antiques
and charm, featuring one queen bed and a leather sleeper sofa.
The bath has a large Jacuzzi tub (for two).
The kitchen is equipped with a counter-top stove, microwave,
refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster, dishes, pots and pans, etc.
The Homestead is $105.00 per night for single or double occupancy,
$15.00 per night for each additional person, accommodates four.
The furnishings in “The Homestead” are the original furniture that was
in the house when Porter (Patrick’s father) was born there.
The small desk to the left of the door, the wardrobe, the headboard on
the bed, the dresser, the kitchen cabinet, the wood cook stove (under the
microwave), the clock on the mantel, etc., were all in the house when Porter
was born and grew up there. (The
cabinet in the bathroom was originally used in the kitchen as a work counter
and for storing pots and pans). The picture over the fireplace is of
Frank Watson, Patrick’s great-uncle, who died when he was four or
five-years-old (this is probably the last, and maybe only, picture of him). He is buried beside his father in a little cemetery (just the
two of them) between Kerrville and Ingram.
The picture on the right side of the dresser is of Hye and Margaret Brown
on their wedding day. The picture
on the left side of the dresser is of Phillip and Edna Watson, holding their
son, Porter (Patrick’s father). The picture on the little desk is of Phillip and Edna Watson
in their later years (she is making lye soap). A local artist did the
print of Hye Store on the right side of the door leading to the kitchen.
Of
course, the Jacuzzi tub, gas fireplace, leather couch, cook-top stove, etc.
were not in the house at this time (but then neither was electricity or
running water).
In The Kitchen (“The Homestead”)
There is a cook-top stove, refrigerator, toaster, microwave, and coffee maker.
There are pots and pans for cooking in the bottom door of the kitchen
cabinet. There are dishes and
glasses in the upper left cabinet door. The
coffee, filters, extra roll of paper towels, etc. are in the top cabinet with
two doors. The flatware, knives,
dish clothes, etc. are in the drawer above the door where the pots and pans
are kept. In the three drawers to
the right the top drawer is empty, the middle drawer has a small cutting
board, knife, and scissors. The
bottom drawer has trash bags.
There is a small, clear plastic beaker next to the coffee pot.
This fits inside the coffee pot (attaches by the handle), and you can
place a tea bag in the beaker and make tea.
(There are tea bags in the glass bowel in the cabinet). The sink
handles in the kitchen push towards the window to turn on. There is a
fire extinguisher to the right of the kitchen cabinet as you are facing it.
In The Bathroom (“The Homestead”)
There is soap, shampoo, hand lotion, etc.
There is extra tissue in the “outhouse” next to the commode. Please
do not turn the Jacuzzi on until the water covers the jets.
ENJOY!
